Audio Mastering for the 21st Century

Digital downloads and streams are now the most common and most cost effective way to deliver your music to your fans. Total Sonic Media has the experience to get you master files that will be exactly to the specs of your digital music distributor, and that will sound as excellent as possible regardless of the format that they are encoded to or the service they are streamed from.

New Standards for Streaming & Downloads

We are now providing 24bit 44.1kHz wav files (one per each track) set to a -1dBFs output ceiling, as currently recommended as the optimal “streaming master” format specs by Spotify and Apple Music. We also provide 16bit 44.1kHz wav files generally set at a -0.3dBFs output ceiling for use as download and Compact Disc masters, or for services still requiring masters to be submitted at 16bit. These files can then be uploaded to your digital aggregator (such as CDBaby, DistroKid, Tunecore, record label, etc.). These services then can encode these files to the various formats needed (such as mp3, m4a, flac, etc.) and then get them placed into the digital music retailers (such as iTunes, Amazon, etc.) and streaming services (such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Pandora, etc.). These services will generally have you enter all metadata (such as Album Title. Artist Name, Track Title, ISRC, album art, etc.) using their online forms at the time you upload the master audio files to them, and then will encode this information into the various download and streaming formats for you, so that this information shows up in the various devices and software players when your tracks are played.

Hi-Res Digital

We can provide 24bit 96kHz high-resolution wav, aiff or flac files (or at 48kHz, 88.2kHz, or 192kHz sample rates on request) if you wish to offer audiophile quality downloads, which services such as HDtracks and Bandcamp retail. This makes for a great way to provide digital downloads to your audience at the highest possible sound quality. Some video editors prefer to receive files in 24bit 48kHz formats as well. We can also provide files to “Apple Digital Masters” specifications.

Tagged web-ready mp3 / aac /FLAC / wav

If you are streaming files from your own website, or if you wish to send out tagged files to reviewers, venues, promoters, radio stations, or for direct sales - we can also create tagged (containing “metadata” - information about the track that will appear in software and hardware players when the file is opened) wav, mp3, aac, ogg, or FLAC files for you on request. Detailed info on the subcodes we can embed can be read here. We highly recommend FLAC files as a most excellent license free format as they use “lossless” data compression which allows the same exact audio quality as the original master on playback but at around 65% of the file size. If you wish to have us provide mp3, aac, or ogg please let us know what bit rate you wish: 320kbps - best quality, largest file size 256kbps - good quality (equivalent to what iTunes Plus is encoded at) 192kbps - medium quality 128kbps - poor quality, streamable to slower connections Please send album covers as RBG jpeg or png files saved at 1000x1000 pixel size if you wish us to embed them into your files.
